This new review synthesizes international literature to identify mechanisms that sustain racism in nursing and explores factors essential for designing and implementing anti-racist practices in Aotearoa New Zealand. Using Indigenous Kaupapa Māori methodologies, the review analyzed 20 peer-reviewed articles from 2011 to 2023. The authors found that colonial attitudes resist change, but nurses can lead transformative changes by adopting anti-racist practices. Implementing these practices can redefine nursing care, leadership, and education to eradicate racism, validating Indigenous values and delivering equitable healthcare. The review highlights the lived experiences of Indigenous and racially minoritised nurses, offering insights for global anti-racist policies.
